In Loving Memory ~

The family of Terrence (Terry) Hanrahan are deeply saddened and utterly heartbroken to announce his passing on January 8th, after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer. We are forever grateful that, at the end, he just closed his eyes and passed peacefully.

Dad was born at home on July 29th, 1937 in Haddock, Alberta. He was one of 13 siblings and grew up farming in nearby Peers, Alberta. He moved to Campbell River at the age of 19 to work on the construction of the Strathcona dam.

He met our mom, Evelyn Hanrahan (nee Sturgeon) in 1957 and they married in August of 1958 and together raised 4 children.

Dad worked for 62 years as a heavy-duty equipment operator and finally retired at the age of 76. He was, by far, one of the best in the business. He built many roads, both logging and residential.

He was a very hard worker, strong as an ox and tougher than nails. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and storyteller to the end. He loved tending to his raspberries and fruit trees and was always full of life and laughter.

Dad was a devout Christian for most of his life.

Dad was predeceased by his parents Owen and Constance and siblings, Keith, Iris, Roy, Evelyn, Vonnie, Cathy and Doug, and one nephew, Mark Williams.

He was also predeceased by his father-in-law, Kenneth Sturgeon and mother-in-law, Claire Sturgeon, son-in- law John McQueen and his best buddies, brother-in-law Lawrence (Larry) Aikman and brother-in-law Stanley (Stan) Mitchell.

Left to mourn him is his wife of 65 years, Evelyn, his children Marilyn McQueen, Joe Hanrahan (Brenda), Laura Bergsma (Jim) and Cindi Koch (Graham), his 9 grandchildren Joe McQueen, Teresa Brown (Greg), Rebecca Wood (Rob), Holly Snyder, Don Bergsma, Megan Bergsma (Dusty), Jeff Bergsma, Jenni Koch and Bethany Stewart (Fraser), and his 3 great-grandchildren Julia Wood, Olivia Wood and Liam Wood.

Also left to mourn him, his 1 remaining sister Faye Beart (Ernie) and his 4 remaining brothers, Don Rumball (Maryanne), Morris Rumball (Penny), Colin Rumball (Rhonda) and Larry Rumball.

Sisters-in-law, Shirley Koch, Midge Mitchell, Brenda Hanrahan and Sheila Petersen, as well as many loving nephews and nieces and countless dear friends. Also, his faithful and loving cat companion, Hank. He will be greatly missed and forever loved.

We would like to thank, Dr. Zorn, Dr. Vegidis, the CR cancer care, the palliative North team, CR Home Support and special thanks to the North team home care nurses, Mariah, Nicole and Carmen. Also, to his granddaughters Holly Snyder and Rebecca Wood for all your tender care during his passing.

Rest easy dad and enjoy a big jug of Berry Jack with dear uncle Stan up there in heaven.

No service by request. Donations kindly appreciated and accepted to dad's favourite charity, BC Children's Hospital.

"Say not in grief he is no more, but live in thankfulness that he was."
