Ron was born on January 8, 1937, in Maymont, Saskatchewan. He was the only boy of 8 children. Sadly, Ron, a resident of Discovery Harbour Care home in Campbell River, died peacefully on Wednesday, Oct 18, 2023.
In 1960, Ron left the family farm in Maymont to start a new life in Campbell River, BC with his wife Elaine, daughter Connie, and son Dale. His son Laurence was born in Campbell River.
Ron is survived by his wife Elaine, daughter Connie (Sandi), and sons Dale (Cindy) and Laurence. Also, his 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two sisters Stella, and Verna (Glenn), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ron worked as a millwright at Elk Falls Pulp Mill. In 1962, he moved his family to a 50-acre farm in Black Creek. Ron loved his farm animals, and each year he tended his greenhouse and planted a very large garden. He had great joy in sharing the bounty with family and friends.
He will long be remembered for his annual corn roasts!
Ron also had a well-maintained tree farm at the back of his property. Many families came by to get their Christmas tree and to share drinks and stories; telling stories was one of his favourite things.
Ron and Elaine had many good times on their boat, Fantasea. They would often plan trips with their fellow boaters to fish and explore the islands of the inside passage.
They were also involved in community curling; socializing with friends was a big part of their lives.
On his retirement, Ron opened a small sawmill business. He sawed the wood that was used in the restoration of the BCP 45, the fishing boat on the Canadian $5 bill. This historic fishing boat is now housed at the Maritime Heritage Centre in Campbell River.

As was Ron's wish, there will not be a service. The family will be planning a Celebration of Life in the New Year, date to be determined.
