Nina was born at Little Qualicum on July 9, 1933 along with her twin sister Nora. She spent her childhood between Qualicum and her beloved Grandmother's farm in Fanny Bay.

Nina married Ero Saarikko in 1951 initially living in Campbell River and then in 1954 the Sayward Valley for thirteen wonderful years, relieving as postmistress as needed. In 1966 moving back to Campbell River for the remainder of her life.

Coming from a pioneering family, Nina had a passion for gardening, hunting and fishing. Processing all of that harvest into canning, pickles, relishes and other preserves was an accomplishment and joy. Nina took great enjoyment by providing for family.

The Family would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to the Discovery Harbour Care Centre, Cortez Staff and Dr. Prinsloo for the care and compassion they provided especially the palliative team.
