In Loving Memory ~
It is with sadness and love that we announce the peaceful passing at home of Helena at age 91.
She will be deeply missed by us, her three children: Terry (his family Janice, Jordan and Blair), Kathryn (Reg, Kate, Scott, Matilda and Desiree) and Greg (Jerry).
Helena had a "joie de vivre" that she shared with everyone. Born and raised in Pembroke, Ontario, she worked summers in Muskoka and New Brunswick, attended nursing school in Kingston, and then headed West to Vancouver to start her career as a nurse.
She met her husband, Clair, at Yellow Point near Nanaimo and settled in Campbell River in 1957.
She never stopped adventuring given her love of travel, boating and exploring. We children only slowed her down temporarily, until we learned to swim, ski and to keep up. Her last cross-country trip, at 90, was during the Snowmaggedon of 2022.
Planes and automobiles, delays and cancellations were all taken in stride as part of the adventure to make it on time for family Christmas celebrations.
She kept busy and enjoyed a very active life. Family and friends were so very important to Helena. She liked to socialize with her church group, share lunch with her golf buddies, and keep in close contact with her many friends for life both near and afar. She loved family gatherings and was most pleased when her family would come home for a visit in Campbell River.
After many months of decline, and with her usual stoic grace, we witnessed a kind, adventurous and generous woman journey on to the next life, joining her husband Clair, brother Welland and other close family and friends.
We will miss you, Mom.
Terry, Kathryn and Greg
Helena's family would like to thank the tremendous doctors, nurses and caregivers from the VIHA and Golden Grove teams for their compassionate support and care.
At Helena's request, there will be no service.
In lieu of flowers, Helena would have encouraged you to provide a donation to the Campbell River Hospital Foundation in her memory.
