Fire quickly extinguished by staff and customers at historic Island pub

A fire that broke out at the 17-Mile House Pub in Sooke on March 5 was swiftly extinguished by quick-thinking staff.

Sooke Fire Rescue responded to a call at 6:16 p.m., reporting a kitchen fire on the second floor of the building. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the fire had been extinguished by the prompt actions of restaurant staff.

The first truck arrived on the scene approximately 10 minutes after the call, encountering light smoke but no visible flames.
