Doris was born in Rochfort Bridge Alberta to Gus and Mary Manson the youngest of 8 children. Her early years were spent on the family farm where her parents worked hard to support the family. The family moved to Cadomin Alberta where while in grade 1 she met the young lad she would later marry. Doris spent her teen years in Britannia Beach BC when her family moved so her Dad could work in the mine. In July of 1955 she married the love of her life Don Allen they spent 60 happy years together in Campbell River. Doris had many talents she worked as a cashier at Lucky Dollar foods and she and Don later owned and ran Tammy's Tack and Saddlery in the Willow Point Plaza and then Allen's Sport shop also in the Willow Point Plaza. Some might know her from K-Mart or the Dollar Store in the mall where she also cashiered. When Don needed a change in his work life they purchased a cod fishing boat and operated it out of Brown's Bay. They loved camping starting with a camper moving up to a trailer and later a 5th wheel and enjoyed traveling across Canada and also up to Alaska. Their house was always a welcoming place and Don & Doris hosted some legendary house parties.
Doris was an avid bowler and enjoyed league play until COVID-19 hit. Her love of sports included cheering on her boys in hockey and Debbie on her horse competing in Gymkhanas. She loved watching her grandchildren play sports. Then there was her love for the Canucks.
She is pre-deceased by her husband Donald Charles Allen (in 2015) as well as all of her siblings and is survived by her 3 children Kent (Ann) Allen, Debbie (Ray) Nuszdorfer and Leonard (Sherry) Allen. Also by 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was so proud of her family.
A drop-in Celebration of Life will be Sunday, November 26th at The Coast Discovery Inn from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come and share your stories.
