I read with growing alarm the recent article in your paper that covered the delegation to the Feb. 29 City Council meeting to speak to their perceived problems with our health care system.
As a former two term councillor in Campbell River, I have experience with being in council chambers and listening to a wide-variety of delegations addressing council.
It is clear to me that the agenda of this current council was to have the delegation present to further their own individual political aims. When this ‘slate’ of councillors and the mayor were elected, this type of tactic was a major concern for many people. Unfortunately we are now seeing the results of electing a slate of like-minded leaders at the local level.
This type of petty politics is not needed, nor welcomed at the level of local government. Stop wasting valuable staff time asking for a report about what to do next, instead invite the real professionals in health care as a delegation to learn more about the issue.
