New steel piles and a new water seepage barrier have been installed at the John Hart Dam as part of BC Hydro’s Seismic Upgrade Project to protect fish, maintain water quality, and protect the dam from a major earthquake.

“Water quality is one of our top priorities for this project and that’s because the water intake for the City of Campbell River is very close to the work area, so we have a double silt curtain that is attached to a floating boardwalk that is anchored to the reservoir bottom,” says Stephen Watson, senior stakeholder engagement advisor for BC Hydro.
