Active transportation makes cities healthy, vibrant and economically viable: Letter

web1_letters-typing-group

Your article ‘Opening ERT Road to vehicles…’ caught my attention.

Recently, I walked the ERT road when I couldn’t find adequate bus transportation. The many cyclists and walkers using the path rather than their cars was impressive.

I was stunned, therefore, to read that councillors ‘…expressed discomfort’ with the ‘active transportation’ concept. I would like to express my discomfort with their discomfort – a retrograde reaction that ignores critical evidence about what makes cities healthy, vibrant and economically viable places to live.
